Vandana Kataria is a National-award winning production designer. She had recreated the Calcutta of the 1940s with intricate beauty in Dibakar Banerjee’s comic noir film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, but insists she is an ‘accidental’ production designer. She won a Filmfare award for her work on her first film, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008). All the three films she has worked on, including Shanghai (2012), are directed by Banerjee. The 38-year-old National Institute of Design (NID) graduate in film and visual communications is only hoping the accolades she has received will take her closer to her ambition: writing and directing a feature film.
